Mary has been active in a variety of professional organizations, including the Law Foundation of British Columbia, which she chaired from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010, the Canadian Bar Association's BC Branch, and the Victoria Bar Association. In addition, Mary has served on a variety of community boards, including the Victoria Women’s Sexual Assault Centre, the Victoria Heritage Foundation, and the South Vancouver Island Family Planning Society. Mary was appointed as Queen’s Counsel in December of 2011.


Mary received a designation as Queen’s Counsel in 2011, was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the UVic Faculty of Law in 2014 and received the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch Georges A. Goyer, QC Award for Distinguished service in 2015.
